Meet Karen Colbert
Karen Colbert knows what it means to navigate the evolving landscape of education. As a Tribal College Department Chair, Data Scientist, Educational Strategist, and National keynote speaker, she specializes in Data Storytelling and Decolonized teaching and assessment practices in higher education. Colbert has dedicated her career to bridging equity barriers in STEM for Black and Indigenous scholars and the institutions that serve them.
With over 15 years of experience as a Math Faculty at a Tribal College, Colbert has celebrated increased retention and persistence rates in math courses, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Her dedication has not gone unnoticed: she was invited as the 2024 plenary speaker at Stanford University's Spring Symposium for the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, where she amplified the needs of the Tribal College community to increase diversity in AI Research and Education.
Colbert is also the co-author of the book chapter "Tending the Fire: Leading the Tribal College Movement" with the American Indian College Fund, focusing on the implications of AI in the classroom for Tribal College leadership. Additionally, she collaborated with the National Science Foundation on the Future Directions of Math and AI report and will be a panelist at the Achieving the Dream 2025 conference addressing "AI in the Classroom: Revolutionizing Teaching and Learning and Its Impact on Student Success."
